CVA Coach

Sarah Hernandez

Head Coach · 12-Gold

If you want to know what I like coaching most, it's serve receive. Seeing the kids gain confidence in their skills and not being afraid to go for the ball never gets old. I'm Sarah Hernandez and I've got 12-Gold this year at CVA. Hitting runs a close second. That's on the back of over a decade coaching, two of them with this age group. The best way to evaluate me is in the gym. Come watch a practice — you'll know within twenty minutes.

What a night in the gym looks like: built around fundamentals and technical work and high-volume, with a lot of contacts for every athlete. What I do after a bad error in a close set: I ask what was their mistake. Most of the time they realize what happened and we can talk about what we do to fix it.

2 years at Mason High School. I still play adult league.

On playing time, no hedging: every kid on my roster plays. They're young. The scoreboard can wait. The awkward part, said early: an athlete who isn't ready to be pushed. I will push.

One year when coaching my daughter’s team, we lost every game of the regular season, but came out and won the end of season tournament! The thing my athletes won't drop is how loud I get over a good dig. When I'm not coaching: I am a special needs bus aide for the Lakota school district.

Communication, so you're not guessing: open door, one condition: give it an hour after the final whistle.

Come to tryouts, or come to an open gym. Nothing beats seeing it in person before you commit, and you can reach me any time at sarahhernandez0719@gmail.com.
