There's one skill I never get bored of, and it's hitting. My favorite moment is when a hitter stops swinging hard and starts swinging smart. I'm Reagan Allen and I've got 14-Allen Black this year at CVA. Defense runs a close second. I've been coaching the better part of a decade. 14s trains differently than any other age, and my practices are built for exactly that.
Practices here are built around fundamentals and technical work and divided between position work and full-team reps. On mistakes, I'm consistent: I ask what they saw. Most of the time they already know.
On playing time, no hedging: minutes get earned in practice. If an athlete isn't getting them, they'll hear from me exactly what to fix. The awkward part, said early: anyone hoping to talk minutes right after a match. I'll talk any other time. Recent seasons: 10 of 10 athletes came back the following season.
The running joke on my team is how loud I get over a good dig. When I'm not coaching I'm a college student. As a player I was an outside hitter through 18s club volleyball, and I can still demonstrate every rep. My teams make themed hair bows for every tournament day!
