KoJak Wells

Head Coach · 11-Red-National & 12-Black

I'm KoJak Wells, second-season coach at CVA. 11-Red-National is mine this year. The part I like best is the mental side. His coaching philosophy centers on an "Athlete First, Volleyball Player Second" framework, prioritizing raw athleticism, explosive movement, and a fierce, positive aggression over rigid, traditional technicality. At the core of his court culture is the proprietary "0-0 Mindset," a mental training system that challenges athletes to compete with identical focus and intensity regardless of the score. By pairing his volleyball "smarts" with structural excellence—such as transitioning young teams into advanced, high-IQ systems—Coach Wells prepares athletes to dominate on the national stage while building life-long competitive confidence. Team offense runs a close second. I've spent a few seasons in the gym. I've done the homework on 11s: how this age trains, what a practice should look like, and what actually gets them better. The best way to evaluate me is in the gym. Come watch a practice — you'll know within twenty minutes.

You'll see me with 12-Black too. The club put a second team on my schedule so more athletes get this system. Both teams get the same standard.

The way I handle a rough patch mid-set: I don't waste reps pointing out obvious mistakes mid-set. If an athlete shanks a pass, they get the instant mechanical adjustment, not a lecture. A practice with me is game-like from the first whistle, live reps instead of lines and heavy on fundamentals and technical work.

The honest version of who shouldn't sign up: a kid who's comfortable where they are and wants to stay there. So there's no confusion later: this is a competitive team. The lineup that gives us the best chance to win is the lineup that plays.

There is one thing my athletes will not let go of: yelling the score is 0-0 millions of times throughout the season. The rest of the week: Off the court, Coach Wells is a Financial Strategist in Corporate R&D Strategy at Procter & Gamble, a top business graduate from UT Knoxville, and a recipient of prestigious corporate leadership awards. He uses this sharp background to bring an elite level of analytical strategy and tactical precision to youth sports. Coach Wells is also the proud father of a club volleyball player giving him a deep personal investment in the development of the sport. My own playing: middle blocker at the Division III level, and I still play alumni and pickup games.

On talking to me: open door, one condition: give it an hour after the final whistle.

Come to tryouts, or come to an open gym. I'd rather you judged me on a practice than a paragraph, and you can reach me any time at Vb@courts4sports.com.
