Ali Heinold

Head Coach · 14-Gray

I still lace up and play setter in adult leagues and on the beach because I love being right in the middle of the action. That same feeling is what I want every player on 14-Gray to experience this season. I coach because I want these athletes to have a better club experience than I had growing up, and that starts with making sure each girl knows I see her, hear her, and am invested in her growth.

Practices with me are built around the fundamentals that actually move the needle. We break down setting and passing until the movements feel automatic, because one setter really can change what an entire offense is capable of. When something goes wrong in a drill or a set, I give the fix right away. The girls already know they made the error; they need the next step so they can fix it before the next rep.

Minutes on 14-Gray are earned in practice, and I will tell each athlete exactly what she needs to work on to earn more of them. That kind of clear feedback helps them prepare for high school varsity and beyond. I also know the honest truth: this team is not the right fit for an athlete who isn't ready to be pushed past what she thinks she can do. I would rather be upfront now so there are no surprises later.

I work as a stay-at-home parent during the week, so my inbox is always open. Email me any time and you will hear back within a day. I have four to seven seasons of coaching behind me, mostly in rec and youth leagues, and it was a privilege to help two of my previous girls teams reach first place in their divisions. One phrase tends to come out of my mouth about four hundred times a practice, but the girls never seem to mind.

I cannot wait to get on the court with this group and watch what they become together.
